A Candle in the Wind. . .

The world mourned the loss of Diana, the Princess of Wales, 23 years ago today.  She was 36. She died after a car crash in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris.

Her fairytale wedding to Charles in 1981 was watched globally.  Then came the pressure of the role and the divorce.

Elton John had his song A Candle in the Wind rewritten in her honor and performed it at her funeral at Westminster Abbey.

Here is a view of Place de la Concorde by Moreau from 1780.  It is located just ½ mile from the place of the terrible crash, and Diana’s demise.
