FRONTIER DAYS: THE SHOW MUST GO ON(LINE)! : Long-standing community festival goes virtual

PRESS RELEASE: Andrea Brady, Executive Director, Milford/Miami Twp. Chamber of Commerce

MILFORD, OH (May 21, 2020) – After 57 years, the Milford Miami Township Chamber of Commerce and community refused to let a little thing like a pandemic cancel this favorite festival tradition.

Instead, the festival pivoted to respect our current reality, moving to support local businesses and provide a respite for community members through a week of specialized food & drink, fun promotions, and a virtual live concert by the Frontier Days’ annual highlight, the Naked Karate Girls.

During the first week of June, local restaurants will be offering specialized entrées and drinks inspired by our beloved Frontier Days cuisine: from fried bologna to funnel cakes, the goal is to evoke a festival feel even when we cannot hold an actual festival.

During the week, as they savor these unique offerings, the community will also enjoy special promotions from Billy McCarthy of the BillyRock Band and other highlights from our local restaurants, as well as have the opportunity to purchase Frontier Days promotional items. Participating restaurants include: 20 Brix, By Golly’s, the Governor Modern Diner, Midwest Best BBQ and Creamery, and Padrino. Support these local restaurants during the week of June 1-7 and try their festival-inspired entrees and specialty drinks

Naked Karate Girls will broadcast a live fundraising performance (Provided)

The week culminates on Sunday, June 7 as the Naked Karate Girls broadcast a live fundraising concert hosted by Allen Walker of Big Daddy Walker Productions. The concert will also feature behind-the-scenes interviews with participating restaurants, special drink recipes, and more fun!

Guests will be encouraged to watch the concert on your smart TV or phone while grabbing a bite to eat and keeping social distance. Participating restaurants will also be showing the concert live on their TVs inside the restaurant. We are encouraging people to come out to your favorite restaurant and watch the concert, or if you prefer, pick up take-out to have a picnic or get out on your porch and D(ist)ANCE Your Heart Out!

Downtown Milford is also home to the only permanent Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, or DORA, within a half hour of Cincinnati. Reminiscent of New Orleans, visitors may stroll the streets and shops enjoying an alcoholic beverage in a designated DORA cup – and on Sunday, June 7, moving to the sounds of the Naked Karate Girls virtual live concert! This is a unique opportunity to enjoy a beautiful evening while getting out of the house and still maintaining social distance.

This year’s “Virtual” Frontier Days is hosted by the Milford Miami Township Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Milford-Strong.com, a campaign created by the Chamber in partnership with the Historic Milford Association to assist local businesses during COVID-19.

This website promotes any and all businesses in Milford and Miami Township. The recently launched site provides one platform to purchase gift cards, learn about our local merchants, and purchase #milfordstrong merchandise. Visitors wishing to visit the Milford-Miami Township area may easily identify restaurant and shop options and hours, as well as which restaurants are part of the DORA.

Frontier Days: The Show Must Go On(line) is proudly presented by Lykins Energy Solutions.

Proceeds from the Frontier Days virtual event will benefit the Chamber and Milford-Strong.com, with a portion going to Feed Our Flock, a non-profit that addresses food insecurity in the Milford School District.
