Today’s featured poem in ‘Poet’s Corner’
By Susan Adams
LOVELAND, OH (August 12, 2023) – Today Loveland Beacon features another poem from our featured poet Susan Adams.
Susan shared the following story about today’s feature poem: Our Trailer
Here’s the story:
Don bought this little white motorcycle trailer because we were going to Americaid with the Druhoit’s in the Finger Lakes, NY. He named it Baby Dumpling in memory of the little white rabbit his parents gave him for his fifth birthday. When the rabbit was big enough, he would climb up the outside steps to the second-floor apartment and sleep on the porch. The next morning he would climb back down to start eating his salad. When he grew quite large, the family decided to take him to his maternal grandparent’s farm in Kentucky. His parents took Don there often to see his rabbit. One day, at lunch, his uncle asked him if he knew what he was eating and Don said: “Chicken”! His uncle said: “No, you’re eating your rabbit!” Then, his evil uncle threw back his head and laughed. Don never could forgive him despite what the “Good Book” says.
