Representative Schmidt focused her statement on encouraging women to schedule their next breast exam noting recently passed into law House Bill 371 provides for any woman to have a yearly breast exam. HB 371 also allows the use of better technology for more thorough breast exams without battling insurance company policies.

Here is the statement released

by Rep. Jean Schmidt:

“October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I want to remind every woman that they should schedule their next breast exam. If they have not, do so now. HB 371 is now law in Ohio and allows any woman to have a yearly breast exam. It also allows women to have more comprehensive screenings, such as tomosynthesis, or a 3D mammogram, and may be eligible for supplemental screenings, such as MRIs and ultrasounds when a woman has dense breast tissue. Doctors will no longer have to fight insurance companies to give women the care they need. We know that early detection works and annual exams can be lifesaving to women.” – Jean Schmidt, State Representative (R-Loveland)

Schmidt has made breast cancer awareness and prevention a priority throughout her tenure. Her most recent push with her joint sponsor State Representative Sedrick Denson (D-Cincinnati) began in September of 2021, and went into effect September 23, 2022.

State Representative Jean Schmidt is serving her first term in the Ohio House of Representatives. She represents the 65th house district, which includes northwestern Clermont County.
