Less than 24 hours before launching the 2020 Summer program, NEST celebrated serving 43,507 meals to Loveland School children during the COVID-19 school closure. Leaders of NEST shared a huge Thank You to partners in the Feed Our Kids program including Marco’s Pizza, Loveland School District, and the Loveland community at large via the NEST Facebook Page Sunday, May 31.

Evangeline (Van)  DeVol, NEST founder, and other members of the advisory board for NEST Community Learning Center have had a focus on creating a “COVID-91 Compliant” summer program for several weeeks. On Monday, June 1, two weeks ahead of the normal start for NEST summer programs of the past, they launched into the 2020 Lunch, Learn & Play program for Loveland school kids. It is a program completely revamped and redesigned to meet all the COVID-19 mandates and recommendations for safe social interaction with the children and adult volunteers helping.

DeVol recognized early in the coronavirus quarantine the impending need to keep the students minds engaged “more than ever” this summer. She cited the separation from normal classroom teaching and personal engagement with teachers during the distance learning caused by the COVID-19 school closure as a real risk for students. This program is designed to keep the students most at risk engaged with learning in line with the mission of NEST Community Learning Center – Nutrition, Education, Safety & Tranformation.
