Loveland U offers a “behind the scenes” look at the workings of the community.  The program is returning for 2021 after a COVID-19 forced hiatus in 2020. Loveland is now accepting applications for the 2021 session.

There are actually 10 class sessions during the program which will be held weekly September 15 – November 17. Each session has a designated topic with minimal lecture time designed for interaction with adults participants. Each participant will learn about issues, plans and activities of the Loveland community and will have the opportunity to provide valuable feedback.

“City Council is committed to finding ways to help our residents understand the decisions we make, become more involved, and connect with the community,” said Mayor Kathy Bailey. “This program accomplishes all these goals and more.”

Here is information on the program provided in a press release issued by Krista Rose for the City of Loveland:

Sessions will include practical exercises that help relate a topic to real world experiences by identifying an issue, educating on how one might address it, and then allowing participants to apply their knowledge. For instance, one session covers property rights versus community good, and participants are challenged to review a case study.

The program is designed for adults. You must live or work in the City of Loveland or be a member of a civic organization based in Loveland. Enrollment will be capped at 25 participants. Enrollment applications can be downloaded at http://lovelandoh.gov/365/Loveland-U

Apllications are due by June 30.

“Loveland U was great for me because I got to see how many people were doing thoughtful, next-level work for our awesome city,” said Jon Espy, 2019 graduate of the program and a Loveland resident. “What was even better is that it inspired camaraderie within our class to get involved. Loveland U has led to me knowing more familiar faces and wonderful new experiences within Loveland.”

Whether you are a newcomer or have lived here many years, Loveland U offers a perspective on the city’s structure, as well as local organizations. The city partners with Little Miami Conservancy, Loveland City Schools, Loveland Stage Company, and Loveland Museum Center to host the program.

Loveland U launched in 2019.  COVID-19 restrictions caused cancellation of the 2020 program.  For more information, please contact Loveland U Director Ray Kingsbury at rkingsbury@lovelandoh.gov.
