LOVELAND, OH (May 4, 2020) – Loveland High School (LHS) today released its plans for a graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020.

After weeks of meeting daily and readjusting plans according to changing guidelines and directives from the state, the graduation decided upon will be a single-family, in-person ceremony.

“The Class of 2020 deserves to have the most memorable ceremony possible given the current circumstances,” said LHS Principal Peggy Johnson. “While this is not the traditional ceremony that we had envisioned for our seniors when we started out this school year, we feel it is the most personal of all options given us by the Ohio Department of Education.”

Families will be called into the high school auditorium one by one, by appointment, on the originally scheduled graduation date of May 23. The students will walk across the stage, receive their diploma, and will then leave the auditorium with their family. All families are asked to leave the school immediately following their ceremony.

Last week, the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) issued a “Statement on Graduation Ceremonies” during the pandemic that allows single-family, in-person graduation ceremonies as long as no more than 10 people, including school administrators, are congregated in the space at any

one time. Precautions must be taken to ensure that door handles, hand railings, etc. are disinfected often throughout the day, and schools must work with local health departments and law enforcement partners to ensure that health and safety protocols are followed appropriately.

We will have strict parking management to prevent gatherings in the parking lot and other outdoor areas to make sure everyone stays safe,” said Johnson. “We are excited to move forward with a plan that will allow us to celebrate our graduating seniors on the day we originally had scheduled, and in a way that feels personal and special within the current guidelines.”

With today’s announcement, LHS has published a website with all the details that families will need in preparation for graduation on May 23.

Senior Awards, an event that is usually held in person, will be held virtually on May 13. It will be recorded and is anticipated to be available to view the same evening.
