Loveland Valentine Poetry Special – 7th grade winner
By: Amalie Lyke – Loveland Middle School – 7th grade
LOVELAND, OH (February 23, 2026) – Number six in this 8-part Poet’s Corner Loveland Valentine special edition.
7th grade poetry winner Amalie Lyke (sister of Roman) with Garth Carlier in background (Chuck Gibson)
Amalie Lyke is the older sister of Roman and boasts a Loveland Valentine poet winning streak of her own. Her winning entry for this year makes it four consecutive winning poems for Amalie. She never fails to show up for the Valentine’s Breakfast celebration dressed beautifully and prepared to read her winning poem with equal beauty and grace despite the emcee’s consistent mispronunciation of her name. Hey Bill, it’s AH-muh-LEE, not EH-muh-LEE. Once again, Amalie took it with a smile and presented her poem in high style.
Here is Amalie’s poetic reflection on how love changes, but never leaves
Please enjoy ‘Love Never Leaves, it Changes’ by Amalie Lyke
Love Never Leaves, it Changes
Over time, things have changed
Some are different, but some stay the same
Instead of having a class party,
I find myself doing English and geometry.
I still love the cards from my mom,
The chocolates from my dad,
And all of the love from my friends that I’ve always had
I realize that the holidays are different than they were
But they will be just as fun in the future, I’m sure.
Things can seem weird when you are growing up
They change everywhere and it can seem tough.
But, if you look around you’ll see the love,
Because love never leaves, it changes.
A beautiful reflection of love ever-changing as the world all around Amalie evolves but remains filled with love that never leaves. An introspective look with a wonderful outlook. Thank you Amalie.
