Olympics

The Greeks held their games for about 1200 years, starting in 8th century BC at Olympia.

The revival of the Olympics was instigated by a French historian and educator.  The first modern Olympics opened in Greece 125 years ago today.  The Winter Games were added in 1924.

So far, the US held the most games – four each of Summer and Winter Olympic games.  The next Olympics is scheduled for this summer in Tokyo with the one-year COVID delay.

Here is Greece’s map from 1541 by Fries, issued in Vienna.
