OPEN LETTER FROM MARCEL MANGAN

LOVELAND, OH (February 2, 2023) – Here is a letter from LHS junior Marcel Mangan reaching out to friends, family and the Loveland Community at large for an assist in the 2023 Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) Student of the Year fundraising campaign. With Marcel’s permission, the full text follows: 

Hello Friends and Family,

This year I will be fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) as a candidate for Loveland High School’s Team CoUREage 4.0, with the goal of raising over $7500 personally and $100,000 as a team.  Around this time last year I was asked by two fellow classmates to join their LLS fundraising campaign.  Personally I’ve never had too much of a connection with blood cancer, so I wasn’t sure if I was the right person to join.  Ultimately, I ended up participating in their fundraiser and got invited to an event called the “Grand Finale.”  During the Grand Finale we got to hear the stories of two people who had battled Leukemia and Lymphoma.  One of them was a girl from Little Miami that luckily recovered within a year, and the other was a teenager who had battled with cancer off and on for a few years, yet sadly passed away.

I personally never knew either of these people, but through them I was able to gain a connection with the campaign.  During that event I realized that I’m not just fundraising to battle cancer.  I’m fundraising for the thousands of families worldwide that are affected by these diseases.  I’m fundraising for the people who have had their friends and family taken from them because of these diseases.  I’m fundraising for the many children who have had their childhood stripped away from them due to these diseases.

Almost everyone has been affected by Leukemia and Lymphoma in some way.  Maybe you know a loved one that has had it, maybe a friend, maybe even your neighbor.  Either way everyone is connected to it.  Because of that, I ask that each person reading this makes a small donation.  Make a donation not for yourself, but instead for those that you know battling these diseases.
