INDIAN HILL, OH  (January 27, 2021) – Science learning is hands-on for Indian Hill Primary School (IHPS) students thanks to the Indian Hill Foundation.

Foundation partners purchased educational kits for all IHPS students in grades one and two, including both in-person learners and Brave Virtual Academy (BVA) students. COSI, a science learning center headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, developed the instructional kits.

“When the students are engaging with the kits, they are having so much fun,” said IHPS Teacher Amy Campa. “They don’t even realize that through their play, they are learning. As a teacher, this is the kind of learning I love!”

Each grade level received a kit that relates to a unit of study completed during the year and correlates to Ohio’s science standards.

The kits contain all supplies necessary to complete at least five hands-on activities, as well as an activity book with QR codes that can be scanned to watch expert videos from naturalists at COSI, making them perfect for students who are learning virtually. Second-grade students received nature kits, and first-grade students received water kits.

Indian Hill Primary School (IHPS) second grade student Lucy Spears along with all her first and second grade classmates will experience five hands-on science learning opportunities this school year thanks to the donation of COSI learning kits by the Indian Hill Foundation. (Provided)

“We are grateful to donors whose giving allows us to respond quickly to what our teachers need next. K-12 STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) learning is a key priority for our District and therefore our grant making,” said Carrie Vanden Boom, IH Foundation grant committee chair.

“This is a tremendous educational gift from our Indian Hill Foundation, and we always appreciate how they work to support our mission of delivering exceptional educational services,” said Campa. “With these kits, I hope to foster a love and excitement for learning and exploring within my students, while also continuing to grow their independence and ability to problem solve.”
