COME FLY WITH ME
Today is the 95th year anniversary of Pan American Airway’s formation – Pan Am for short.
Pan Am started as a mail carrier between Key West and Havana, and then expanded to service Central and South America as a passenger airline.
Pan Am grew to global reach quickly and it was the US’s international flag carrier for much of the 20th century. It was an aviation pioneer – from use of jet airplanes to computerized reservation systems.
It met its demise in 1991 in part due to economic downturn, energy prices and being overextended in number of large planes.
Here is a route map showing Pan Am’s Caribbean routes in the 1950s.
