FUN WITH MAPS – ISSUE 2022-216 DAILY FEATURE:

By Steve Kovacs (Introduction by Chuck Gibson)

LOVELAND, OH (December 6, 2022) – In Issue 2022-216 of Steve Kovacs Fun with Maps, we fill your boots or your stockings.

St. Nicholas Day

Remember to leave your boots out.  Hopefully you get a few presents and not chucks of coal or sticks – depending how good or bad you have been.

St. Nicholas is the patron saint of children.

In many parts of Europe, with some differing specifics, St Nicholas day is observed, mostly through giving small presents or chocolate in the shoes or boots left out by the young ones… well, the bad ones may have something else coming…

St. Nicholas, or the Americanized (from the Dutch) Santa Claus are the same person, and he has a workshop in Rovaniemi, Finland right on the Arctic Circle.   I know so, as we visited there 30 years ago on this day…

So in his honor here is a map of Scandinavia from 1753 by Homann.
