LOVELAND, OH (August 13, 2022) – It was a moment he’s been waiting for all his life. Drew Plitt made his Bengal debut count Friday night at Paycor Stadium (Formerly known as Paul Brown Stadium) in Cincinnati leading the Bengals to a last minute touchdown during their exhibition loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
The former Loveland High School Tiger and Ball State Cardinals quarterback put on the tiger stripes of the Cincinnati Bengals Friday night to take on the Arizona Cardinals in his NFL debut and the 2022 pre-season home opener at newly named Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati. At the start of the game, there was talk Drew Plitt may make his Bengal debut taking some snaps at QB late in the 4th Quarter. His moment came with under 5 minutes remaining with the Bengals trailing the Cardinals 36-16 and the ball on their own 24 yard line.
Plitt handed the ball off for running plays to begin the drive with the runs gaining more than 10 yards and a fresh set of downs. He seemed to settle in and completed his first NFL game pass attempt for a nice gain. There was a mix of running plays and pass plays, including a pass play where the Cardinals rush flushed him out of the pocket resulting in a nice scramble and run by Plitt. The mix of runs and 5 completions drove the Bengal offense down to the Arizona 29 yard line where Plitt faced a 3rd down and 10 yards to go situation with a 1:18 remaining on the game clock. That’s when his moment came.
Plitt took the snap from center dropped back, stepped up to avoid the rush and let the ball fly down the right sideline toward a streaking #19 Kendric Pryor. Pryor had a step on the Cardinals defender, caught the ball on the run inside the 5-yard line stepped into the end zone for the Bengal touchdown. No flags on the play as Pryor was brought down in the endzone, but bounced back up to his feet for the celebratory spinning of the football. TOUCHDOWN; Plitt to Pryor. It was the first touchdown pass of Drew Plitt’s NFL career. He ran from near the 30 yard line straight into the end zone, and straight to the ball as he joined his teammates in celebration of the scoring play.
THE DRIVE: 76 yards and a touchdown with Drew Plitt a perfect 6 for 6 passing on the drive.
It was a moment Drew Plitt has been working for, not just waiting for, all his life. Officially, it came with 1:15 remaining in the Bengals preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio on Friday, August 12, 2022. It was a winning moment for Drew Plitt, and brought the final score of the game to Cardinals 36 – Bengals 23.
