With Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announcing the end to all COVID restrictions effective Wednesday, June 2, 2021 and calling for an immediate end to the mask-wearing requirement for those who have been vaccinated, the Ohio Catholic Bishops Conference has likewise allowed Catholic parishes to return to full capacity in person masses immediately and reinstated the Weekly and Holy Day obligation to attend mass beginning the weekend of June 5-6.  Churches of other denominations who have been following the CDC and State health guidelines are expected to be returning to full in person services as well.

Here is the announcement sent out by St. Columban Catholic Church to their parish community in Loveland, OH:

Mass obligation reinstated and vaccinated parishioners are no longer required to wear masks

Beginning with the Masses on June 5th and 6th, the Catholic Conference of Ohio Bishops are reinstating the obligation to attend Sunday and Holy Day Mass for the faithful of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

Governor DeWine has also just announced that effective immediately, the state’s mask mandate is lifted for vaccinated Ohioans, reflecting yesterday’s change of guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Archbishop had earlier declared that because churches in the diocese have been following the regulations of the public health authorities throughout the pandemic, if there was a change to the statewide mask mandate, it would also apply to churches. As such, vaccinated parishioners are no longer required to wear masks at Mass.

All remaining COVID-19 health orders will expire on June 2nd. At this time, parishioners who are not vaccinated are no longer required to wear masks, the Parish Hall will again be available for reserved events of any size and parish groups are permitted to meet without group size or distancing restrictions.

As a reminder, Masses return to full seating capacity without social distancing this weekend, with the exception of the section next to the music area. We will continue recording 4:30 Mass and posting to our website for the next three weekends until the obligation is reinstated.

We thank you again for your support of all of the initiatives and changes the past 15 months have entailed.

We are overjoyed to welcome everyone back to the table!
