Looking up at Moulon Rouge? Steve Kovacs, Loveland, OH (Provided)
Paris’s Moulin Rouge opened in 1889
on this day.
When in Paris, travel to Montmartre and look for the famous red windmill, or moulin rouge in French, on the roof.
This cabaret is the birthplace of can-can dance and has been largely a tourist attraction in the past few decades. Interestingly, many of the dancers are Americans.
Incidentally, it opened the same year as the erection of the Eiffel Tower was completed.
Here is a folding map of Paris by Vuillemin from 1861.
