Let the Good Times Roll – Ziegfeld Follies Style
The Ziegfeld Follies premiered on Broadway 113 years ago today. The Follies were something between a Broadway show and vaudeville or a variety show. They were quite lavish, and many stars appeared on the show over its 24-year run, including Bob Hope, W. C. Fields and so on. It was the brainchild of Florenz Ziegfeld, but the idea originally came from his wife . . . Ladies know best.
Here is Hardy’s map of the New York City Fire Department Districts in Manhattan, from 1871. While the Follies were hot, it is doubtful the Fire Department was called to cool the show . . .
