LOVELAND, OH (November 18, 2024) – In this edition of Fun with Maps we celebrate the birthday of a famous mouse.

Mortimer

Today is the birthday of Mortimer Mouse (1928).   He was renamed soon after to Mickey by his daddy’s wife.

The iconic Disney character replaced Oswald the Lucky Rabbit as the lead actor in cartoon shorts of the time by Walt Disney. 

Although most will think of Steamboat Willie as Mickey Mouse’s first appearance on the silver screen, it was actually in Plane Crazy, which failed to be syndicated.

Mickey Mouse is the flagbearer for the Walt Disney Company.  The company’s annual revenue is $92 billion, buying a lot of mouse food.
