LOVELAND, OH (April 29, 2025) – It was 2005 and a golf outing at a golf course called “Crooked Tree”, the golf course has changed to Hickory Woods Golf Course and O’Bannon Creek Golf Course, but the purpose remains straight and true: help fight kids cancer!
Ralph Dunnigan and John Zielke of Paxton’s Grill visit Loveland Beacon Talks to share the story of the Paxton’s Grill 20th Annual CancerFree Kids Golf outing. Oh…and how it has helped! Ralph Dunnigan is the founding father of the charity golf outing going back to that first event at Crooked Tree in 2005. After that first year there, the host course changed to Hickory Woods Golf Course in Loveland where it has remained ever since. This year the outing will continue there on Friday, June 6th and Saturday, June 7th with an additional “corporate outing” to be held at O’Bannon Creek Golf Course on Monday, July 14th. In some surprising news this 20th year, Dunnigan is passing the baton of leadership for the outing to John Zielke beginning with the 2026 event.
Just since 2014, research grants totaling $500,000 have been funded for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The research from those grants has translated into additional funding in the millions of dollars. It all goes back to a simple statement that Ralph Dunnigan has never forgotten.
“Kids and Cancer are two words that don’t belong together,” said Dunnigan. “I’ll always remember that.”
